IOTM

Oligochaeta consists of two main groups: the predominantly aquatic microdriles and the primarily terrestrial megadriles, commonly known as earthworms. With around 5,000 described species, this diverse group plays a crucial ecological role in their respective environments.

The International Oligochaeta Taxonomy Meeting (IOTM) serves as a platform for experts to exchange knowledge, discuss recent advancements, and identify gaps in the study of these essential yet often overlooked organisms. The meeting fosters collaboration, synergies, and the exchange of ideas across various disciplines.

While the primary focus is on oligochaete taxonomy and phylogeny, the meeting also integrates other aspects of their biology, including ecology, faunistics, phylogeography, and evolutionary biology.

The 10th International Oligochaete Taxonomy Meeting will continue the tradition of previous gatherings and will take place in Osijek, Croatia, from November 3rd to 7th, 2025. The venue will be in Tvrđa, the historic old town of Osijek, known for its well-preserved Baroque architecture and rich cultural heritage.

The event will feature scientific sessions for presenting and discussing research findings, along with a taxonomy workshop led by experts in various oligochaete families. Additionally, a field trip will be organized, offering participants a unique opportunity to explore local ecosystems and sample organisms in the field.

Further details on the venue and itinerary will be provided soon.
